U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein has died at age 90 on Thursday night at her home in Washington, D.C., her office said Friday. Feinstein, who was born and raised in San Francisco, served in the Senate since 1992. She was a trailblazer, entering the office with a number of other women who advocated for liberal causes. Feinstein was also known for her pragmatism that could reach across the aisle.

San Franciscans were paying tribute Friday to the late singer and songwriter Tony Bennett, whose classic song “I Left My Heart in San Francisco” made him a Bay Area icon. He died on Friday at 96. His career spanned over 70 years and his earliest success came with the song “Because of You,” which reached No. 1 on the pop charts in 1951. Throughout his career, he formed close personal and professional friendships with artists across all genres, many of whom he performed with.
