Promoted under the Jazz Thursdays banner, the concert features Kay’s quartet revisiting the saxophonist’s internationally acclaimed second album, Golden Sands, with support from improvising folk duo Norman&Corrie. “I really enjoyed recording Golden Sands with my band at the time and I was happy with the results,” says Kay, a former Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year who went on to win the much-coveted Peter Whittingham Jazz Award and became a Take Five artist in 2024.

The St Bride’s Centre in Orwell Terrace on Sunday 6 October and Queen Margaret Hall in Linlithgow on Saturday 2 November are the venues where the concerts will take place. Founded in 2002 to provide a free educational opportunity for promising young jazz players, the Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra has gone on to nurture some of the biggest talents in Scottish jazz today.

Chichester-born Rahman, who won the Ivor Novello Impact Award in 2021 and the MOBO Award for Best Jazz Act in 2012, has become a much-respected figure on the UK and European jazz scenes. Her powerful performances marry her classical training with studies in jazz with the revered JoAnne Brackeen at Berklee College of Music in Boston and her strong engagement with her Bengali heritage.

Bancroft appears in a duo with guitarist Graeme Stephen on Friday 23rd September, with harper Karen Marshalsay presenting music on all three harps from the Scottish tradition – gut-strung, wire-strung and bray harp – on Friday 20 September. Alto saxophonist and finalist in BBC’s Masterchef, Laura Macdonald follows on Friday 25 October in a duo with guitarist Kevin Mackenzie, and leading Scots singer Fiona Hunter closes the series on Friday 29 November accompanied by keyboardist Tom Gibbs.
