    Even though 15 parties were on the ballot in the last provincial election, Alberta is, for all intents and purposes, a two-party system. That’s not because it was mandated to be so; it’s simply a byproduct of what voters wanted. In 2023, the combined total of UCP and NDP votes was just under 97 per cent. However, given the circumstances that precipitated the creation of the United Conservative Party, it’s not hard to imagine a scenario where Alberta’s political right splinters yet again.
