    An odd number of players made the cut at The Masters which meant Augusta member Michael McDermott got his moment in the sun, playing alongside three-time PGA Tour winner Tom Kim in the first group on moving day. And Kim was impressed. As an amateur, the idea of playing Augusta National excites and terrifies me in equal measure. The idea of playing Augusta National in front of thousands of fans at The Masters has me hiding under my desk. But Michael McDermott isn’t me.

    Several LIV golfers were among the big names to miss the cut at the 2025 Masters. We are 36 holes in at the Masters, which can only mean one thing… it’s time for some heartbreak. The cut fell at two under par and sent 42 players home early from the 95-man field, ending their hopes of slipping on the Green Jacket for another year at least.

    When Nick Dunlap stood on Augusta’s 1st tee alongside Robert MacIntyre and Billy Horschel at 9.36am, he’d have had visions of a very different day. Under cloudless blue skies, the 21-year-old would have been dreaming of a fast start. He bogeyed the par-4 before steadying the ship at the par-5 2nd. And then things deteriorated. A bogey at the par-3 4th was followed by a triple at the par-4 5th.

Looking forward to when Rory McIlroy still somehow finishes 7th in BBC Sports Personality of the Year in December.
