CRICKET Ipswich general manager Simon Emmerson hopes recent fencing damage at the Amberley fields can be fixed as soon as possible in the off-season. However, he acknowledged a lot of other regions received more extensive damage than Ipswich’s cricket headquarters at the Ivor Marsden Memorial Park. The main damage was fences being knocked over and debris scattered in floodwaters at the bottom section of Baxter Oval. “We’ll work out what infrastructure, repair processes are needed,” Emmerson said.

WITH a background in the military, Willowbank-based coach Kaine Tessier has moved around a lot. However, he thoroughly enjoyed working with a group of talented upcoming Ipswich Jets teenagers in this year’s Cyril Connell Cup statewide competition. The Jets had to win their final match against the Sunshine Coast Falcons last weekend to qualify for the semi-finals. “RELIEF” was the best word to describe how Rosewood Roosters club president Jasmine Hassett felt after the recent impact of Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred. The club fields at Anzac Park were covered in water as the rising threat peaked on Sunday night and Monday after the cyclone crossed the coast. But thankfully for the Roosters, the water only reached the second step of the clubhouse. Jasmine said the club earlier moved what they could to a higher level being told there was no major threat.

A MATER youth mental health expert has warned that Tropical Cyclone Alfred may leave cases of ‘cyclone anxiety’ in its wake. Emotional Health Unit Nurse Practitioner Chris Leary said the cyclone – the first to hit South East Queensland in 50 years – could trigger low mood and anxiety states leading to more serious mental health issues in young adults and children if not monitored or left unchecked.

POTENTIAL flooding across Ipswich is not expected to reach its peak until early Sunday, according to latest information from the Bureau of Meteorology. Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said while the worst of the wind and rain from Tropical Cyclone Alfred was expected to be Thursday through Saturday, water levels will continue to rise. “The Bureau of Meteorology has said rapid river level rises and flash flooding are expected across many creeks, associated with the heaviest rainfall.
