The second big bye round of the season was always going to be a tough one for SuperCoaches. And I’m sure many heads dropped when NSW coach Laurie Daley announced that SC stud Keaon Koloamatangi had won a place on his extended bench of the game in Perth. But I have the pleasure of being the bearer of good news - NSW’s 19th man (Koloamatangi) WILL be available to play for Souths on Sunday. The 20th man (Lindsay Smith) would also be available but his side, Penrith, do not play in round 15.

Cameron Ciraldo has confirmed new recruit Lachlan Galvin will be in the Bulldogs squad to face the Eels next Monday, but he won’t have the No.7 on his back with Toby Sexton set to keep his spot despite suggestions he was going to be dropped. Galvin has impressed the club after just two sessions and has been accepted by the playing group, with Ciraldo not ruling out a potential debut via NSW Cup amid suggestions his inclusion could disrupt the ladder leaders’ success in 2025.

Hopefully you survived, if not thrived, through the first major bye round of the season - now it’s time to cross your fingers and toes that the Origin representatives in your team get through Wednesday’s game unscathed. All trades made prior to Origin I have to be considered pencilled in as the inevitable injuries and suspensions from the big game will cause us to hit ye olde ‘reverse trades’ button.

Bye rounds are moving rounds in SuperCoach; with those prepared to burn trades now in order to maximise their overall score climbing the ranks and those conserving trades due to a head-to-head focus dropping away somewhat. Or at least that used to be the case back when there was still a top-17 scoring system in place during the major bye rounds. Now that we’re playing a ‘best-13’ scoring system the ‘need’ to trade is somewhat diminished - but not the ‘want’.

Hello, my name is Rob, and I’m a SuperCoach trade-a-holic. Even though my team is sitting pretty and basking in the muted glory of the first 1,600+ score of the season, I still spent more of my Monday than I’m comfortable admitting - outside of this safe space - refreshing the SuperCoach app waiting for the chance to trade this week. But I’m trying to kick the habit and (this is a risky thing for someone running a trade Q&A to write) I think you should too. I’m not advocating we go cold turkey.
