Saskatchewan Roughriders defensive back Tyrique McGhee has noticed a pattern — one that is unlike the routes run by receivers he conventionally covers. Winnipeg has invariably been part of the picture since he entered the CFL in 2023. A member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for the past two seasons, he is now part of a Saskatchewan squad that plays his former team in both 2025 pre-season games.

The powerful presence of Jermarcus Hardrick is such that he was asked to break down the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ practice upon its conclusion on Tuesday at Mosaic Stadium. “You think about it all off-season,” the Roughriders’ right offensive tackle said. “You have all these great things that you’re going to say. A.J. Ouellette jump-started the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ offence by hurdling a would-be tackler. The feat of athleticism was part of a 21-yard run during Saturday’s game against the host Winnipeg Blue Bombers. “You can tell he’s feeling like himself,” quarterback Trevor Harris said of the Roughriders’ featured tailback, who demonstrated his 1,000-yard form during the 2025 pre-season opener.

Jaxon Ford elevated his game while lowering the boom. The third-year Saskatchewan Roughriders safety administered two jarring hits during Saturday’s pre-season opener against the host Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He did so while wearing No. 21 — which was donned with distinction by his grandfather, Alan Ford, during 11 seasons with the Green and White — for the first time against an opposing CFL team.

Drae McCray, an accomplished sprinter at North Florida Christian School in Tallahassee, Fla., exploded out of the starting blocks with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Playing in his first game of professional football, the 22-year-old CFL rookie demonstrated elite-level acceleration during Saturday’s pre-season clash with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. McCray returned three kickoffs for 110 yards, with the longest gains being 51 and 36.
