Postseason softball is in the cards yet again for Mississippi State softball as Selection Sunday set the field for the postseason. Samantha Ricketts team is headed to its 19th Regional in school history as the NCAA set State in the Lubbock Regional. The Bulldogs will be matched up with Washington in game one with a potential game two against host Texas Tech who is the No. 12 seed overall. The Red Raiders will play Brown in round one.

Mississippi State was well on its way to a decisive series win over No. 24 Ole Miss, but the Diamond Dawgs let the Rebels hang around in game three. After building a five-run lead in the middle innings, MSU’s bullpen began to falter. Ole Miss closed the lead to a run in the final two innings and had the lead runs on base, but the Diamond Dawgs survived a 6-5 victory.

Forty minutes after Mississippi State was crushed 10-4 in game one of the series against No. 24 Ole Miss, the Bulldogs had their backs against the wall. MSU didn’t pitch it particularly well in the game one against the Rebels and the bats couldn’t find a way to come through in key situations. Game two held a different story. Starkville Academy graduate Evan Siary came out as a man on a mission.

A missed opportunity with the bases juiced and Hunter Elliott teetering gave the No. 24 Rebels some juice. The next inning, Ole Miss poured on five runs and took control of game one of the series in a 10-4 victory. It was the tale of two aces handling some adversity differently. Elliott was falling apart in the fourth inning as he allowed four-straight runners to reach and an RBI triple from Bryce Chance tied the game.
