Union hammered Philadelphia 17-1 and 18-0 on Tuesday but split a doubleheader on Saturday, beating Northeast Lauderdale 13-12 while falling 4-3 to Ethel. The Union baseball team split a division series with Philadelphia, winning 12-9 on Tuesday while losing 2-1 on Thursday. They then fell 14-4 to Lake on Saturday.

    The Union powerlifting team finished second at this year’s Class 2A state powerlifting meet and had two individual state champions. Meanwhile, the Union tennis team advanced eight of its 12 players to the Class 1 state tournament. PowerliftingThe Yellowjackets finished second in Class 2A with two individual state champions. In the 165-pound weight class, Tristan Williamson won first place by 115 pounds. The senior had a 455-pound squat, a 275-pound bench press and a 470-pound dead lift.

    The Leake Academy Rebels saw their 14-game winning streak come to an end last week at the hands of rival Simpson County Academy. The Cougars remained unbeaten in district play as they won 6-5 on Tuesday, 7-3 on Thursday and 8-1 on Friday. The Rebels fall to 14-4 on the season and will face Lamar this week in a crucial three-game series. Game 1 is set for Tuesday in Meridian while game 2 will be Thursday in Madden. The series will finish on Friday in Meridian.

    The Union baseball team took two of three wins last week, sweeping J.Z. George before falling to Lake on Saturday. On Tuesday, Union hammered J.Z. George 23-0 with a no-hit effort. Kooper Fultz was 3-for-3 with five RBIS while Austin Lee was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Jacob Freeman was 2-for-3 while Sawyer Robinson was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. JacksonOn Friday, Union took another run-rule win over J.Z. George with a 12-1 victory.
