On Thursday morning, Tim Summerlin Music Education Hall on the campus of Schreiner University was the site of an emergency service training drill. Personnel from the Kerrville Police Department, Kerrville Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services and Kerr County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the university to engage in a mass casualty simulation drill. At Monday’s regular meeting of the Kerrville Independent School District board of trustees, the school board passed a motion to name the Career and Technical Education Wing after Charlene and Lee Spaulding. The Spauldings were avid supporters of KISD over the years. Now named the Charlene and Lee Spaulding/Spaulding Career and Technical Education Wing, it is located adjacent to the school cafeteria inside Tivy High School.

On Wednesday morning, the Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library hosted a magic show for children at the Cailloux Theater in Kerrville. The activity was part of the library’s Summer Reading Program initiative and was free to the public. The show’s performer was David Pitts, a magician, puppeteer and ventriloquist from Amarillo. He goes by the stage name of “The Astonishing Mr. Pitts” and can be found online at www.mrpitts.com.

A Comfort Bobcat football player and an Our Lady Of the Hills girls basketball player have won the first annual Kerrville Daily Times Players of the Year Award. The results were decided by an online poll that began on June 4. Topper Sterling totalled 949 votes to take first place in the boys Player of the Year poll. An Ingram Tom Moore girls golf standout was named to the Texas High School Coaches Association’s 3A Super Elite Team. Tierce Zipp, a sophomore at Ingram, was the lone Lady Warrior named to the Super Elite Team. She joined Jordyn Cruz and Olivia Lopez of Odessa Compass Academy Charter School, Hannah Marcott of Ore City High, and Zoey Martinez of Paradise High as the other members of the squad.
