RALEIGH COUNTY, W.Va. (WVVA/Gray News) - A child who was born prematurely just one week into the second trimester of his mother’s pregnancy was released after spending 19 months in the hospital. Douglas Epling, who is known as Dougie, weighed just 1 pound 14 ounces when he was born. His lungs were not fully developed, but he did take his first breath and his medical team worked to keep him alive. Dougie finally came home for the first time last week.
