Just one week away!Governors Ball will be taking place in Flushing Meadows Corona Park from June 6 to June 8 for the third year in a row, but this year also marks the 15th Anniversary of the festival altogether. GovBall is the five-borough answer to music festivals like Coachella and Bonnaroo. It was time that the East Coast had a definitive and long-lasting music fest such as this, and we got it.

You know the cliché saying that all good things must come to an end? Well, this one is bidding farewell with their final album, a final string of shows, and an album of unreleased demos. Tennis, the husband-wife duo we’ve come to know and love, closed out their gorgeous stride of decadent tunes with their latest and final album, Face Down In The Garden, back in April . “I pulled that title from a song lyric from ‘Twelve Blown Tires,’ which is the first song we wrote for the album.

With a hometown show on May 22 at Warsaw in Brooklyn, now was the perfect time to catch up with our talented friends in Sunflower Bean. Sunflower Bean, the trio of Nick Kivlen, Julia Cumming, and Olive Faber, have been at it since 2013, and they have grown through and throughout Brooklyn’s DIY scene. That scene is still active with new bands cropping up on the daily, but Sunflower Bean has now seen it and lived it, and now they’re rocking out because of it.

Jon Muq is a man having a conversation with the world through music. The blues might currently be an underrated genre in the mainstream, but it can be so invigorating in times like this. When the economy is in a rut, we count on the blues to lift us up. Thanks to The White Stripes and The Black Keys in the early 2000s, the genre was resuscitated in a way that helped with our mood as a nation and brought us together no matter what political climate we were (or are) under.
