    Jinya Ramen Bar celebrated its opening in the Union Market district by donating $1 to Gallaudet University for every edamame dish and lycheetini beverage purchased between October 11 and November 11. Edamame is a dish with immature soybeans, still in their pods. It is served boiled or steamed. Lycheetini is a martini prepared with lychee juice.

    James Earl Carter, Jr., the 37th President of the United States, became 100 years old on October 1. He is the longest living former President. Just last week, he also became the oldest person to be nominated for a Grammy Award. This nomination, in the Best Spoken Word Album category, was his tenth. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. Carter signed all Gallaudet diplomas awarded between 1977 and 1980.

    The Gallaudet University women’s volleyball team won its quarterfinal and semifinal matches in the United East Conference tournament. With a win tomorrow against second-seeded Lancaster Bible College, they will repeat as conference champions and earn an automatic bid to the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III tournament later this month. Gallaudet was 27-4 during the regular season, and was 10-0 in conference play.
