For my entire lifetime, Buffy Sainte-Marie has been one of the standard bearers for Indigenous people in Canada. A spokesperson, a militant and a symbol of Native excellence. And this week, we learned that the story of her past, the one that presented her as a Native person who had gone through some of the worst struggles our people faced, appears to have been a lie.
