First elected to the position three years ago, Katz is finishing her first term as commissioner.     Republican Jennifer DeSena led Democrat Wayne Wink by more than 3,000 votes in the race for Town of North Hempstead supervisor on Wednesday, according to results from the Nassau County Board of Elections. DeSena had 21,466 votes, while Wink had 18,327, with thousands of absentee ballots yet to be counted in Tuesday’s election. DeSena, of Manhasset, is the executive director of the Manhasset Coalition Against Substance Abuse.

    A former doctor whose practice was located in Roslyn was sentenced to five years in prison on Thursday after conspiring to illegally distribute opioids, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Eastern District of New York. Tameshwar Ammar, 53, who was indicted in November 2019 and worked at Age Management Associates at 55 Bryant Ave., relinquished his license to practice medicine in June 2020.
