Latam currently assesses a surcharge of $13 per segment for GDS bookings made with legacy technology. But starting May 12, the fee will jump to $15.96 for North American bookings made through Amadeus and $14.19 for Sabre. For bookings made via Travelport, the surcharge will decrease to $11 per segment. A different charge will apply depending on the GDS used, with the goal of recovering the cost for each booking, the airline wrote in an update.

The spokesperson also said that flyers with acceptable IDs should not expect longer security wait times, because "TSA will pull those who do not possess an acceptable ID aside" and that TSA checkpoints would be staffed "appropriately" to handle the initial enforcement period.

Planes reconfigured with extra-legroom seats will be added steadily through the end of the year as Southwest prepares to begin selling assigned and extra-legroom seats. Southwest's seat map for retrofitted Boeing 737-800 and 737 Max aircraft shows that five rows at the front of planes will have extra legroom. Behind those, seven-and-a-half rows will be merchandised as preferred seats, e.g. standard seats that are closer to the front of the plane.

Davis stepped down as president and CFO of Sun Country after seven-plus years with the Minneapolis-based discount and charter carrier. Davis was also CFO at Northwest Airlines, stepping down in 2008 as the carrier was in the process of merging into Delta. He'll join Spirit as the carrier is fighting to get back on its feet following its exit from Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring on March 13. Former Spirit CEO Ted Christie resigned on April 8.

"I kind of hope that date gets extended once again," chief commercial officer Andrew Nocella said during United's Q1 earnings call on Wednesday. His comment came in response to an analyst's question about whether United foresees potential revenue implications if lots of customers are turned away at airports. TSA said it will not take a phased approach to Real ID enforcement, as had previously been planned.
