From the perspective of “horse race” political analysis, nothing much changed this week. It was another inconclusive national election. Six of the seven U.S. presidential elections in the 21st century have ended in popular-vote margins of less than five points, historically considered “close,” and the seventh, in 2008, was marked by uncertainty about whether the first Black nominee of a major party, Barack Obama, would really do as well as the polls predicted.
