    Tycho Brahe was a Danish nobleman who lived in the 16th century and was a brilliant astronomer. He meticulously charted the stars with unprecedented accuracy long before the invention of the telescope. One of the most distinctive things about Tycho was the prosthetic nose he wore. He lost part of his nose in a sword duel in 1566 with a fellow Danish nobleman over a mathematical argument. His replacement nose was made of a gold and silver alloy and was held in place with paste or glue.
