Southern California-based trainer Peter Miller plans to be active this week at Oaklawn, with nine horses entered over four racing days, including two in stakes races. Miller is scheduled to start Kale’s Angel in Saturday’s $150,000 Renaissance for 3-year-olds and a newcomer to the trainer’s barn, Nasty Habit, in Monday’s inaugural $145,000 Byerley Turk Overnight for older horses. Both races are six furlongs.

HOT SPRINGS, AR — Seize the Night took advantage of a favorable pace scenario to score a narrow victory in the $175,000 Tinsel Stakes Sunday at Oaklawn. Under Julien Leparoux, Seize the Night ($18.60) finished a half-length ahead of an unlucky Quality Chic in the 1 1/8-mile race for older horses. It was another 4 ½ lengths farther back to third-place finisher Full Screen, who was followed, in order, by 8-5 favorite Red Route One, Unload, Frosted Departure, Laughing Boy and Horace Mann.

Tapit Jenallie, among Oaklawn’s leading 3-year-old fillies last season, is targeting a return to stakes race action in the $150,000 Mistletoe Dec. 14, trainer Eddie Milligan Jr. said Friday morning. Tapit Jenallie, bred and owned by Willis Horton Racing (Arkansan Kevin Horton), made four starts last season at Oaklawn, including appearances in its three Kentucky Oaks qualifying races.

Led by Jubilant Joanie, six Oaklawn-raced horses recorded top three finishers in the 26th annual Claiming Crown Saturday at Churchill Downs. The Super Bowl for claiming horses, the Claiming Crown featured eight starter-allowance races and purses ranging from $100,000 to its richest event, the $200,000 Jewel. The Claiming Crown was open to horses that had started for a specific claiming price during a specific time period. Their owners/authorized agents also had to pay a $200 nomination fee.
