Se respira opresión y autoritarismo. En todos los niveles. Las acciones para desgastar las instituciones democráticas superan los límites de lo posible y de lo tolerable. El gobierno central parece despreciar al Congreso Nacional y no lo disimula. Lo manifiesta a través de discursos en donde insulta en forma soez a los integrantes del cuerpo legislativo, y a través del uso indiscriminado del veto presidencial que torna ilusoria la acción parlamentaria generando un anómalo gobierno de las minorías.

In this submission, Gallardo looks at a finding from his last Daily Yonder article: that rural whites tend to have slower broadband access than people of color. It’s a counterintuitive fact, given that people of color generally tend to have less access – not more – to basic services.

Home internet affordability is a key variable in digital equity. However, 12.4% of Indiana survey respondents did not pay for home internet in the previous 12 months. The biggest reasons were related to affordability and not only about home internet service but devices too, as lacking a desktop or laptop was the main reason why 7% of survey respondents did not use the internet daily.
A “Reverse” Digital Divide in Indiana?

The Purdue Center for Regional Development (PCRD) partnered with the Indiana University Center for Survey Research (IU-CSR) to gather data on Indiana residents on several digital equity indicators. A surprising finding was that the difference between Whites and racial/ethnic minorities was not statistically significant but more importantly, among this group of survey respondents, they were “reversed” to what was expected.

According to a survey done bythe Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research during May of 2020, 42% of all US workers workedfrom home and accounted for two-thirds of the nation’s gross domestic product. Therefore, work fromhome has become a feasible economic development strategy at the onset of COVID-19. Increasingly, being on the “right” side of the divide is moving beyond a yes/no access at home and more toward determining whether a user’s connection satisfies their needs.
