In 1964 New York, a pretty white girl known as Kitty Genovese was stabbed twice, raped and left to die. What mattered to the public, however, was her neighbors’ response… nothing. 37 (or 38) people, all witnesses to this evil event, stood by and did nothing. Or so they say. Kitty Genovese’s physiognomy is forever-frozen in constant contradiction — she is an “ideal” victim who loved the ‘60s’ city, yet was condemned to death by that very city’s negligence.
