Cold pulse detections and quantificationUpwelling events were quantified using a TSI developed on Palmyra (38). This method is optimized to detect and quantify upwelling-induced cold pulses in warm, weakly stratified coral reef environments and requires at least two temperature loggers to be used: one at the target depth of cold pulse detection and a shallower one. For example, cold pulses can be estimated at 25 m depth using loggers from 25 and 15 m and at 15 m depth using loggers at 15 and 5 m.
