Review by Lily, Fortismere School, Muswell Hill, LondonThe book is set in 1881, in the Scottish Highlands. It was really interesting, and nice to see the Scottish dialect. My favourite character was Jen, who is a feminist and defies the standards that only boys can race. It was great to see an example of fighting for gender rights in history. It showed her and Sam's friendship grow, and it had an element of fantasy in believing in treasure and fairies.

Robin Scott-Elliot Robin Scott-Elliot has been a sports journalist for over 25 years with the BBC, ITV, the Sunday Times, the Independent and ‘i’, covering every sport you can think of and a few you probably can’t. The highlight was the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics; the lowlight turning up at the wrong stadium to cover Scotland’s football team. Finding Treasure Island will be his fourth historical-fiction novel after The Tzar’s Curious Runaways, The Acrobats of Agra and Hide and Seek.

‘Otto raised both hands to the sky and yelled in delight. He was still yelling and punching the air when the next plane took off and that too waggled its wings as it flew over.’Robin Scott-Elliot is an acclaimed writer of children’s books. His latest release, Sweet Skies, is a brilliant tale of a boy in post-war Berlin who dreams of being a pilot but is fighting to survive in a battle-weary city. In the extract below, Otto witnesses the victorious US pilots coming to the city’s rescue.
