    The family of a murdered teenager said they were "heartbroken" after tributes to him were removed by a council. Liam Taylor, 19, died in an attack outside the Rose and Crown pub in Writtle, Essex, on 31 January 2020. His family have since been embroiled in a dispute with Writtle Parish Council about flowers and photographs placed at a tree next to the pub. The council, which has consistently cleared the items for almost three years, said it would continue to do so.

    A woman said her life was saved after she got up to change channel to I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! moments before a car crashed into her home. Jess Law feared she could have been killed if she had not moved from one end of a sofa to the other to watch the ITV show last Saturday. "I'm very lucky that I walked away... pretty much unscathed," she said. Essex Police arrived at the home in Colchester at 22:30GMT and arrested a man, 25, on suspicion of drink driving.

    A pair of sisters are "losing sleep" over a looming housing plan that could render their ferret rescue centre homeless. Jo and Tracy Clark fear Hockley Ferret Rescue's closure could leave 180 of the furry animals in limbo. They are set to lose their base when developer Kent Property Investments builds 16 homes there at the Fairways Garden Centre development in Rayleigh, Essex. The developer declined to comment. The sisters have dedicated a decade of their lives to running the centre.
