Published 6:20 pm Thursday, April 24, 2025 MOSS BLUFF – It all came down to the final event, but the Barbe girls track and field team finally ended Lafayette’s nine-season win streak at the District 3-5A meet on Thursday at Sam Houston High School. Barbe edged Lafayette 192-186 to win its first district championship since 2014. The boys team gave the Bucs a sweep of the team titles as they breezed to the title with 158 points, while Sulphur was second with 96 points.

The Saints want to keep that tradition going, but they had to battle through some early season inexperience as they built a new team nearly from scratch. “We started off the year with a really tough schedule against a lot of quality opponents and didn’t really have a lot of experience,” St. Louis head Connor Lloyd said.

Published 9:05 am Thursday, April 24, 2025 Kye Hanks put together a dream-like round Wednesday to win individual medalist honors and led St. Louis Catholic to the Division II, District 2 team title on Wednesday at Lake Charles Country Club. “I started off pretty hot,” Hanks said. “I was 3 under through four and just kept it rolling all day.”Hanks shot a 9-under 63, a career low for the junior with 10 birdies on the par-72 course that was playing at 6,507 yards.

The St. Louis Catholic has the area’s top boys team heading into the postseason. The Saints have won four of seven tournaments, including the Elton Golf Invitational, Barbe Buc Classic, Iowa Spring Classic and Golden Tor Invitational.

They are looking to end the Lions’ streak of nine consecutive district titles. The meet starts with the field events at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sam Houston High School in Moss Bluff followed by the running events at 2 p.m.Barbe’s last district title was in 2014.
