Our goal was to explore what’s working in rural southwest Virginia, how federal and state governments can make their programs more effective and user-friendly, and how farmers, entrepreneurs and the public can get involved.

Walton took a break from compacting soil recently planted with soybeans to show me the tall structures, blades rotating slowly in the breeze, now visible from every angle on his land and neighboring properties. The silver towers look incongruous next to the red barns and outbuildings that would fit perfectly on a postcard from rural America. It feels almost as if you’ve landed on the set of a science fiction movie—or time-traveled into the future.

Last year, the Biden administration announced major climate goals: achieving a carbon pollution-free power sector by 2035 and a net zero emissions economy by no later than 2050. Twenty-nine states and the District of Columbia now require utilities to generate a significant share of power from solar, wind or other non-carbon sources.

A ruling in their favor could set a precedent for all Wisconsin municipalities seeking to regulate agriculture, a $105 billion state industry.

LACONIA, N.H. – In 2002, after an 87-year run, the Colonial Theatre in Laconia, New Hampshire, closed up, largely due to stiff competition from other theaters in the area. Fast forward a decade later, and a movement to restore the historic theater and performing arts center was underway. Today, the performing arts facility located in downtown Laconia has undergone a $14.4 million renovation. The project was one of the largest historic preservation projects in state history.

This is a stunning power grab. In effect, the Supreme Court has crowned itself the final arbiter of the world’s largest economy. Not since its 1803 decision in Marbury v. Madison, where the court ruled it could declare acts of Congress void, has the court so substantially realigned political and administrative power in the United States. Over time, this claim of final judicial review established in Marbury v. Madison has worked fairly well.
