Personality disorder classification changed dramatically from ICD-10 to ICD-11.Reference World Health Organization1 The classification incorporated a dimensional approach more closely than any other section of ICD-11. The reasons for such a major shift were, and continue to be, debated. There was widespread agreement that the ICD-10 personality disorder categories were unsatisfactory.

Thus, the recent interest in new treatments such as ketamine and psychedelic medications is not surprising. The use of psychedelics such as psilocybin for depression has been much hyped, but the evidence base for ketamine is more robust.

Since the RANZCP mood disorders guidelines1 (MDcpg2020) published recommendations for the use of psychological interventions to treat depression, some psychodynamic psychotherapists have raised concerns that we only included short-term psychodynamic psychotherapy (STPP) alongside other evidence-based psychological treatments such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for the treatment of major depression.
