On July 23, 2023, Shahadat Sheikh, a 36-year-old man who was allegedly arrested in an arms act case, died at the Netaji Subhash Palace Police Station in Northwest Delhi. Sheikh was alleged to be involved in more than 18 criminal cases, according to the police officials. Shahadat was to be released the next day after being produced in court, but was found dead. The police said the sentry noticed Shahadat breathing heavily at around 6.30 a.m. and informed the duty officer.

Amid incessant rainfall over the past few weeks, there has been a surge in conjunctivitis cases in Delhi-NCR. The relief camps with inadequate facilities have also become hotbeds for the spread of this contagious infection. Shivam, a 16-year-old, has been living in the Mayur Vihar flood relief camp under the flyover for over 15 days now with his family of 10 ever since the Yamuna got flooded.

The National Action and Coordination Group (NACG) convened a symposium on Wednesday to discuss Delhi’s prevailing child labour issue. Activists and specialists at the seminar highlighted the urgent need for greater awareness and concrete measures to address the detrimental consequences of child labour. The meeting was held a week after the reports on Dwarka’s Sector-9 incident, where a 10-year-old domestic help was rescued from an employer’s house after allegedly being physically abused.
