Mesa City Council has approved four key items to make way for a new auto mall in the southeast part of the city. Council voted 5-0 at its Oct. 21 meeting to approve general plan character area type, a land rezoning, a development and pre-annexation development agreement for Gateway Auto Mall — a more than 60-acre project proposed by Valley auto dealer Horne Auto Group at the newly opened interchange of Signal Butte Road and State Route 24 near the Mesa and Queen Creek border.

CHANDLER, AZ — A big downtown project is under consideration by the Chandler City Council. In a study session on Oct. 14, the Council heard a presentation about the project, dubbed The District Downtown, from city staff and Brennan Ray, an attorney from Burch & Cracchiolo who is working on behalf of developer Meridian West AZ/202 LLC. No action was taken on Oct. 14, but the Council offered feedback on the project ahead of its appearance on the regular meeting agenda on Oct. 17.

The Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority is planning a new development that will complement the existing operations of major companies at the East Valley employment hub. The airport authority issued a request for qualifications to find a developer that will transform eight acres of newly cleared land on airport property. Those eight acres were previously home to two former U.S. Air Force buildings and adjacent to its Taxiway Tango.
