Joseph F. Crowley Jr. was born March 16, 1962, the son of Joseph F. Crowley Sr., a New York City Police detective, and Eileen Crowley, who emigrated from Northern Ireland. The second of four siblings, he graduated from Queens College with a degree in political science. It would suit his career. Crowley was first elected to the state Assembly, serving there from 1987 to 1998. He married R.N. Kasey Anne Nilson in 1998, and they had three children: Kenzie, Liam and Cullen.

Marie Van Brittan Brown, born in 1922, came from a hardworking family. Her father was Guyanese and her mother was from Trinidad. In their house they spoke English, Dutch and French Creole. Marie was taught hard work and decided to serve, becoming a nurse. Her husband, Albert, working hard too, as a electronics technician, decided to buy a 1,232-square-foot house at 151-58 135 Ave. in Springfield Gardens (rezoned and called Rochdale Village, Jamaica, by the Postal Service in 1959).

Alexander Schachter was born on Sept. 12, 1931. In his 20s, he fell in love with Suzanne Mokotoff, eight years his junior, and they were married in 1958. They started at 99-40 63 Road in Rego Park, but soon moved into the luxury 420-unit building called The Drake at 62-60 99 St., in 1961. Alex worked as an accountant and Suzanne started a talent management agency called Suzelle Enterprises. Three girls followed, Felice on Nov. 17, 1963; Simone on Nov. 13, 1965; and Janine on Sept. 18, 1967.

A handsome Irishman, John Francis Hackett, married an Italian beauty, Mary Esposito, in East Harlem in October 1923. They had three children: Theresa, born in 1926, Joan, born in 1934, and John Jr., born in 1935. A postal clerk, Hackett moved the family to Queens, to 40-49 95 St. in Elmhurst. Theresa became a successful clothing model, which may have inspired her younger sister Joan to leave high school in the 12th grade and become a model, too — landing a cover shot on Harper’s Junior Bazaar.

Marjorie Hackett, age 19, married 22-year-old George Tyler Moore in January 1936. He worked for Consolated Edison. A daughter, Mary, was born Dec. 29, 1936. They soon moved from Brooklyn to a new apartment building in Flushing at 144-16 35 Ave. A boy, John, was born in 1944 and the next year they relocated to Los Angeles. It was not a happy home as Marjorie and George were alcoholic parents. The children were raised by a relative and only saw their parents for family functions and events.
