Leona Maguire is confident she will click into gear after an impressive driving performance at the US Women’s Open in Erin Hills despite a third successive missed cut of the season. Maguire missed just two fairways in 36 holes but a double bogey on 14 in round one and a triple on the 11th in round two cost her a weekend place on four-over-par.

In an irony of all ironies, Shane Lowry left himself a birdie putt he could not miss on the 18th on a day where the flat stick completely deserted him as his chances of a first win since 2022 took a blow at the Memorial Tournament. Lowry averaged two putts per green and of the 57 players who made the cut at Muirfield Village he was 54th in strokes gained putting as he signed for a gut wrenching round of 73 to share 7th place on two-under and six shots behind Scottie Scheffler.

Kate Lanigan will be hunting her second title at the Home of Golf as she lies just one shot off the lead on six-under heading into the final round of the St Rule Trophy at St Andrews. Lanigan, who tasted success on the Old Course twelve months ago when she won the R&A Student Series Order of Merit, had the first round lead with a seven-under 68 on the New Course.

The phrase hidden gem gets tossed around a lot when describing a golf course and it’s one I hate. Having played the Valley course at Royal Portrush, I can tell you it is far more than a hidden gem. This is a golf course ready to stand on its own two feet and don’t be surprised if you hear its name associated with some of the best links courses around.

There were three first time winners this season at the Philip Walton Malahide Pro-Am in aid of St Francis Hospice at Malahide Golf Club. David Higgins, Eric Byrne and Eddie Tracey couldn’t be separated at the top on a day where the sun shone but scoring still proved tough. The trio of players carded one-under-par rounds of 70 to share the victory. Higgins of Waterville made the turn in level-par after a bogey on the third and a birdie on the par-5 5th hole as he turned in 35.

Meath vs Dublin still brings the buzz https://t.co/MTZCqLYg3c

Very mixed emotions last night. Rory McIlroy won the Masters, the career grand slam. I should have been there, wasn't, so in a knee-jerk life decision I learned how to play the tiny violin. https://t.co/3MjJIS3JDC
