A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect for Kay County in Oklahoma but this will likely expire soon. Early morning showers and storms in South Central Kansas are exiting to the east. Some rain to the north has not been moving much and could still show some life after daybreak. With more rounds of rain on the way a Flood Watch will be in effect today and into Saturday. Please use extra caution in flood-prone areas and do not attempt to drive through flooded roadways.

Rivers, creeks, and streams are running high after Tuesday’s heavy rainfall. Flood Warnings will be in effect between today and Saturday morning. It is not as stormy this morning as high water gets a chance to recede. Much of the day will be drier. However, there will still be a chance for a shower or storm, especially to the southwest. High temperatures continue to be below average in the 70s and 60s. More showers and storms move in after sundown. The best chance will be to the southwest.

Now that showers and storms have returned they will stick around throughout much of our Tuesday. Rainfall will be heavy at times too. New South Central Kansas storms will fire up once we get into the afternoon. A few strong to severe storms will be possible around and east of the Kansas Turnpike. Even though the threat of a tornado is low, one cannot be ruled out. Near and east of the Kansas Turnpike is also where a Flood Watch will be in effect today.

The first full week of June 2025 will start unsettled with a chance for showers and storms. Some could be severe. The greatest risk for strong to severe storms will be across the western half of the area. There is a low risk for a tornado to the northwest. Before storms get going later today our morning will be clear and dry. High temperatures will be toasty in the upper 80s and low 90s. Later this afternoon and evening is when showers and storms will begin to move in from the west.

Today’s weather will be perfect as Wichita kicks off Riverfest. Skies will be sunny with light winds and pleasant warmth. High pressure has moved in and has cleared out our skies. Despite the dry conditions, a Flood Warning remains in effect for Lyon County. Moderate flooding is expected near Neosho Rapids from the Neosho River. The rest of the area will be fine as we head into the weekend. We will need to watch out for a storm chance Saturday.
