2 MATERIALS AND METHODS Participant information A total of 183 patients with schizophrenia were recruited from the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Unit of Yangzhou Wutaishan Hospital, Jiangsu Province, China. All subjects were male, right-handed Han Chinese. The patients were diagnosed with schizophrenia according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV). The Chinese version of the Schedule for the Deficit Syndrome (SDS)24 was used to diagnose DS.
