NYU’s departments of Sociology and Environmental Studies will relocate to 79 Washington Square East during the spring 2025 semester after a yearslong renovation of the former Goddard Hall, which once served as a residential building. The departments will move in late January and early February, university spokesperson John Beckman said in a statement to WSN.

Former Tisch and Courant student Adi Roy first played Aladdin on stage in his middle school’s production of “Aladdin Jr.” At that time, he hadn’t even seen the popular Disney film. Now, Roy fills Aladdin’s shoes several times per week on Broadway. After starting his Broadway stint as an NYU student, Roy was eventually cast as Aladdin in 2022 and has continued the role ever since.

Faculty and administrators at NYU Langone Health urged Gov. Kathy Hochul to lower fares for patients and health care workers entering Manhattan south of 60th Street in a letter last week. They requested that Hochul exempt or reimburse patients and medically vulnerable individuals from the new $9 rush hour toll, which was approved Thursday and set to take effect on Jan. 5.

In high school, Stern junior Gracie Palumbo-Alkire would go about her daily life of rigorous classes and sports practices, and get ready for bed — pausing her nightly routine to make comedic TikTok videos in the bathroom of her childhood home. What was once a stress reliever has earned Palumbo-Alkire, who goes by “PA,” 2.3 million followers on TikTok, over 360,000 followers on Instagram and 100,000 subscribers on YouTube.

As NYU alum Rishabh Jain created his thesis documentary while studying graduate journalism in the News & Documentary program, he never could have predicted that it would win one of the most prestigious awards for student filmmakers worldwide. His film — inspired by his on-the-ground coverage of refugee camps for The Associated Press — was selected from over 2,600 entries for the 2024 Student Academy Awards and took home third place in the documentary category.

I have never audibly sobbed in a movie theater before, but there’s a first time for everything. I haven’t seen my mom since she died from cancer almost 10 years ago — an obvious statement, I know. She exists to me only in fragmented memories, dusty photo albums and grainy videos. But sitting in a dark, sticky-floored theater at the Angelika Film Center two weeks ago, my jaw dropped as director John Crowley’s “We Live in Time” began, and I saw a version of my mother again in Almut (Florence Pugh).

Former NYU Tisch student Nihar Duvvuri did not have a theater program in his high school — his only acting at that time were 10-minute performances for the speech and debate club in high school. He is now making his Broadway debut in the show “Romeo and Juliet.” The show — which opens on Broadway today — has amassed over $3.4 million from 4 weeks of previews and will run until Feb. 16, 2025.

Around a dozen NYU students rallied to broaden protections under state anti-discrimination laws at Father Demo Square Sunday afternoon. The NYU College Democrats and the Feminist Society at NYU joined nationwide groups Planned Parenthood and the Young Feminist Party to organize the demonstration.
