    Deputy leader Millie Earl said the parties that make up the ruling Three Towns Alliance had campaigned on the 20mph issue ahead of the last election. Responding to a question from cycling campaigner Adam Osman at Tuesday's council meeting, Ms Earl said a default 20mph limit in urban areas "would be beneficial to walking, wheeling and cycling" as well as benefiting public health and air quality. She said her ward of Newtown and Heatherlands in Poole had already seen the benefits of 20mph zones.

    Five men have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man at a hotel in Dorset. Emergency services were called to Hotel Central in Weymouth at about 23:00 GMT on Saturday to reports of a man who "needed medical assistance". Dorset Police said the man died shortly after midnight and his death was being treated as unexplained. The five suspects, aged 21, 31, 34 and two 19-year-olds, are from the local area, police said.

    Production of an aircraft has returned to the Isle of Wight where it was first made. The Islander was first built by Britten Norman in the 1960s at Bembridge but for the last 55 years it has been produced in Romania. Now Britten Norman has reopened its production line on the island where it initially plans to produce two aircraft a year. It said it aimed to increase production fourfold by 2027.
