4.4. DiscussionIn this study, the impact of time-dependent insolation on the vertical trajectory of a biofouled microplastic particle in the ocean is explored using the model of Kreczak et al. (2021) [20], which in turn is a simplified version of the model by Kooi et al. (2017) [19]. The latter study introduced the first one-dimensional deterministic model for predicting the vertical motion of a biofouled microplastic particle in the ocean.
