Overall police activity in Rye declined in December compared to the previous month, except for a noticeable uptick in arrests, department data shows. Police made seven arrests in the city during the month of December, four more than in November. Twoof the arrestswere for felonies, including the Dec. 18 apprehension of a Brooklyn man who used counterfeit bills to buy items at two stores on Purchase Street in late November. Elijah Gay, 23, was charged with two counts of felonies.

The Rye City Board of Education released an online survey for its superintendent search Monday, hoping for feedback on the school district’s quality of education, staff, and traits they value in a new school head. The anonymous survey, created by the board-hired search firm Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA), asks respondents to answer all questions to the best of their ability so the information can help determine “the desired characterizes” of the district’s next top administrator.

George Latimer delivered his farewell address as Westchester County executive this week, before being sworn into Congress on Friday. Latimer expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, in reflecting on his seven years at the helm of county government, calling himself “fortunate and blessed.” The longtime Rye resident acknowledged during his Monday speech in White Plains the contributions of his colleagues, appreciating their efforts and the collaborative work they had accomplished together.

The Rye Police Marine Unit rescued a paddle boarder who was separated from hisfriend and board while on the Long Island Sound near Rye on Friday, after he was carried by the current down toward Mamaroneck. A caller dialed 911 on Dec. 20 to report he was paddle boarding with a male friend, when they became separated from each other. He told authorities he had last seen his friend being swept up by the current toward Larchmont Harbor around 2:30 p.m., according to Rye police.
