Business owners say they have lost hundreds of thousands of pounds and are considering legal action after an eight-month bridge project which was delayed several times. Bridge Farm Bridge, on the A1088 at Stowlangtoft, reopened on March 7 after being shut since July 22 for reconstruction. SuffolkNews exclusively revealed the project was delayed by a mix up at the Mick George concrete plant, which meant the wrong material was delivered to the site.

A teenager has been found guilty of two town centre driving offences. Charlie Palmer, 18, of Mallow Road, Thetford, was due to appear before Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. He did not attend the hearing. He was charged with driving an Audi A3 S Line on Cornhill, Bury St Edmunds, without due care and attention on August 23. Palmer was also charged with reversing the Audi unneccesarily on Cornhill on the same day. The court found the defendant guilty of both offences in his absense.

A man who admitted to intending to supply 48g worth of ketamine has been taken into custody. Stuart Reed, 29, of Glocuester Way, Thetford, appeared at Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with seven different drugs offences. They relate to several incidents across 2023 and 2024, all of which were in Thetford. Reed either indicated he was guilty or pleaded guilty to all the charges at previous hearings on March 17 and 24.

The captains of six village cricket teams have banded together to form a new midweek T20 league to save the sport they love. The inaugural season of the Essex and Suffolk T20 League – with teams from Long Melford, Gestingthorpe, Cavendish, Leavenheath, Bures and High Street Rangers – will kick off on May 16. The captains have seen the village game struggle over recent years due to the longer formats and family lives getting in the way of weekend cricket.

Councils have urged private landlords to reach out for help if they are worried about the new Renters Rights Bill. The legislation, which is expected to be passed in the summer, will bring an end to ‘no fault’ evictions and give renters more security and stability. In anticipation of the bill, West Suffolk Council and East Suffolk Council have partnered on a scheme to work with private sector landlords to support them and their tenants.
