CARIBOU, Maine (WAGM) - Roughly $15,000 has been raised for the Jefferson Cary Cancer Center through raffling off a building. This past spring the Caribou Technology Center made and donated a storage building to be raffled off, with all the proceeds going to the cancer center. Thirteen students spent months working on the project, and all the materials used were donated by S.W. Collins. In total, 2100 tickets were sold. The raffle was a part of Cary Medical Center’s 100-year anniversary.

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - Since it opened in 1984, there has been a need for services at the Sister Mary O’Donnell Homeless Shelter. In fact, in just the last five years, Homeless Services of Aroostook has started five programs to keep up with the growing needs of the community. One big step for the shelter began in 2019 when they expanded from a high-barrier family shelter to a low-barrier shelter.

AROOSTOOK COUNTY, Maine (WAGM) - A resolution has been introduced that would require the CDC to rewrite their regulations regarding dogs crossing the border. Congressman Jared Golden of Maine and Congresswoman Claudia Tenney of New York introduced the bipartisan resolution last week. If passed, the CDC would be required to make the regulations practical for sled dog racers, including mushers and race organizers.

EASTON Maine (WAGM) - The Francis Malcolm Science Center is currently raising funds to help repair their chimney. They worry that if the chimney isn’t repaired by this winter, it could fall on the building, which could close the facility. “We were able to start some work on it but at this point we do not have the total funding necessary to complete all the work that we need,” explains Jim Stepp, a volunteer at the center. The chimney is roughly 45-years-old and is showing signs of deterioration.

SINCLAIR, Maine (WAGM) - The Maine fire marshal’s office have determined that the explosion in Sinclair on Saturday night was caused by a propane release and ignition. This information has come from a press release from the Aroostook Emergency Management Agency. The home that exploded and a home directly adjacent were both a total loss. The Aroostook EMA told WAGM that two people were injured in the explosion.

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - The Aroostook County Sheriff has provided an update on the investigation of Erik Foote, a 39-year-old Washburn man who went missing this past January. Foote’s body was found at the beginning of May on the banks of the Aroostook River in Caribou. According to the Medical Examiner’s report, they could not determine the cause of death.
