AbstractThis perspective aims to enhance understanding of industrial decarbonization strategies (e.g., carbon capture, utilization, and storage [CCUS] and hydrogen) at industrial hubs. We provide a comparative analysis of policy landscapes for the three different net-zero industrial hub projects and conclude by proposing considerations for designing green industrial policies for other regions that need deep decarbonization for their ‘hard-to-abate’ sectors.

Heat pumps are central to any plan for decarbonization of buildings considering 13 percent of US greenhouse gas emissions are the result of burning fossil fuels to heat and cool buildings. Heat pumps, essentially air conditioners that can also run backward, are able to heat homes using electricity instead of natural gas, propane, or oil, and are roughly three times more efficient than natural gas or oil heat, so they can save energy.
