Beatrix the elephant was found in a storm drain along the Zambezi Escarpment - the dramatic, winding stretch of road leading toward the Zambian border, near the Kariba turnoff. A truck driver, making his way up the escarpment, caught sight of something unusual out of the corner of his eye. Pulling over to investigate, he discovered a tiny baby elephant: sunburnt, dehydrated, and holding her trunk in the air as if asking for help.

Some nights ago, I was working late at my computer and blithely headed for bed with my reading glasses on. As I got to the bathroom, I glanced back at something that had caught my eye on the floor, whipped off the glasses and spotted a bloody snake curled up in the middle of the floor!I yelped, loudly, and sprung with alacrity onto my bed, yelling for my husband. As he came in, I leapt from furniture to furniture shouting incomprehensibly about a snake on the floor.
