INTRODUCTION Heavy alcohol consumption is a risk factor for arterial stiffness (Hwang et al., 2022) and associates with increased cardiovascular risk (Goel et al., 2018). The picture is less clear for lower level intake with the suggestion that our arteries benefit from low-to-moderate consumption through antiatherogenic effects on the lipid profile (Rosales et al., 2020), hemostasis (Toda et al., 2017), and inflammation (Stote et al., 2016).
