On Thursday night, August 8, while most trending topic lists on Weibo were all about the Olympics, a new and remarkable topic suddenly rose to the number one, namely that about the “Illegal Human Bone Case.” Just moments later, however, the topic had already disappeared from the Weibo hot search list. An article about the topic by Chinese media outlet The Paper (澎湃) that had just been published hours earlier on August 8 had already been taken offline.

You might have heard of haitang (海棠), the Chinese crabapple flower, but chances are you haven’t come across Haitang Literature City (海棠文学城)—and you’re not alone. Most people in China haven’t heard of it either. Haitang Literature City is a Taiwan-based, Chinese-language website dedicated primarily to female-oriented smut fiction, with numerous contributors from mainland China. ‘Smut fiction’ is a genre focused on explicit, sexual content and themes.

AbstractCation solvation is well understood in the bulk solution phase, but knowledge is limited regarding the electrode–electrolyte interface. The process by which cation solvation conforms to the interfacial field to form interphases remains unclear. Here we examine the synergistic effects of external and intramolecular fields on accommodating Li+ solvates to the Li-metal anode, leading to dielectric-mediated transfer dynamics on the interface.

The Chinese table tennis team achieved great success, winning five gold medals and one silver. However, the women’s singles final on August 3rd, between Chinese champions Chen Meng (陈梦) and Sun Yingsha (孙颖莎), took viewers by surprise due to the unsettling atmosphere. The crowd overwhelmingly supported Sun Yingsha, with little applause for Chen Meng, and some hurled insults at her.
