SYDNEY -- Australian investors have doubled their holdings of Japanese stocks over the past 10 years, as improvements in governance and capital efficiency attract pension and investment funds. Australian data shows the total jumped roughly 20% in 2021 to 54.2 billion Australian dollars ($37.4 billion at current rates) after a lull amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Though the figure slumped in 2022, it regained some ground last year, growing 8% to AU$50.6 billion.

SYDNEY -- Australia, the U.K and the U.S said on Wednesday that they will look to leverage Japanese technical expertise to develop maritime autonomous systems if Japan participates in the technology-sharing component of the AUKUS pact. The three nations are in talks with Tokyo to take part in the second plank -- or Pillar II -- of the AUKUS agreement, which focuses on jointly developing advanced defense capabilities.
