The Habitat for Humanity recently held their second golf tournament since Covid-19 with 116 golfers hitting the links on the Deer Run course at Sun ‘N Lake Golf Club. The golf tournament is one of the biggest fundraisers for the organization. Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that builds homes for families in need. The tournament grossed $25,000 this year. Habitat for Humanity Treasurer Chet Brojek said that shows quite a bit of community support and sponsors.

The mighty Sebring Blue Streaks were the underdogs Thursday night but pulled out the victory in the Class 5A-Region 2 quarterfinal. No. 5 seeded Sebring hosted the No. 4 East River Falcons and took advantage of a Falcon error to win the game in the bottom of the seventh by a score of 6-5. The Blue Streaks record grows to 15-7 on the season. Just in his third week as head coach, Joe Sinness led the team to their third consecutive win. Sinness said it was a great win for his team.

The Avon Park Red Devils can hold their heads high after falling to the No. 2 seeded Bishop Verot Vikings in the Class 2A-Region 2 tournament after they accomplished the two goals they set at the start of the season. Though their season has come to an unfortunate end, the Red Devils (who were seeded No. 7) competed in the district championship. That was goal No. 1, although they brought home the second-place trophy.

Avon Park’s Camila Diaz has signed to be a cheerleader for the Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) Eagles. She will soar like an eagle as a flyer for FGCU. Camila had a few options with four schools checking her out but FGCU was her school of choice since her freshman year of high school. FGCU Athletics competes in the Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) in NCAA Division I. “I’m very excited and I’m also very thankful for the support of my teammates, friends and my family,” Camila said Thursday.

For the third time this season the Sebring Blue Streaks silenced the Auburndale Bloodhounds but this time it was for the Class 5A-District 7 championship. Thursday night Sebring sealed the deal with a 10-run fourth inning and a two-run walk-off homer by Cailyn McWaters in the bottom of the sixth to defeat Auburndale by mercy rule with a final score of 16-6 to become the district champions. Sebring’s record is now 14-7 on the season.
