Lung cancer is the second-most common cancer diagnosed in the United States each year, second to prostate cancer in men and breast cancer in women. It is the No. 1 cause of cancer deaths in both men and women. In 2023, the National Institutes of Health estimates that there will be 238,340 new cases of lung cancer and 127,070 deaths. Approximately 6.1% of people living in the United States will be diagnosed with lung cancer during their lifetime.
