    One of the top prospects in USC’s top-ranked 2026 recruiting class has decided not to wait another year to join the Trojans. Rancho Cucamonga cornerback RJ Sermons, a four-star recruit, plans to reclassify to the 2025 class, leaving high school a year early to enroll this summer at USC. Sermons, whose father Rodney played at USC, should give the Trojans another talented option in a defensive backfield that lost five starters from a season ago.

    The first thing that catches your eye as you enter new Dedeaux Field — once you’ve navigated the ground floor of the parking structure, past the temporary batting cages in the construction zone beyond center field, down the path strewn with electric scooters, around “CONSTRUCTION ACCESS GATE #3” and onto the warning track of USC’s soon-to-be baseball home — is the actual field itself. A new playing surface wasn’t something Trojans baseball players were clamoring for.

USC has hired Trumain Carroll as its new director of football sports performance. Carroll had spent the previous five seasons at Kansas State. Carroll replaces Bennie Wylie, who had led strength and conditioning efforts since Lincoln Riley was hired.
