    The Dobson Spring Folly kicked off on Friday afternoon at Dobson Square Park with its usual offering of carnival rides, arts and crafts vendors, food trucks, and live music at the amphitheater. Some folks were able to get out and take advantage of the event before the weather proved to be a little too much for the Folly and event organizers decided to call it quits a little early.

    Mount Airy High School hosted the North Carolina Public Library State Quiz Bowl Finals on Saturday. Teams from the Surry Early College High School, Innovation Early College High School from Pitt County, and Lee Early College of Lee County participated in a wide-ranging test of knowledge with questions presented by quizmaster Brack Llewellyn. The home field advantage may have worked in the favor of the Surry Early College High School team which won the state title over the team from Pitt County.
