The next chapter in THE HUSH SAGA has commenced. The original team from the classic story has returned after 20+ years, and are ready to take us on a new (and final?) journey with one of Bruce Wayne’s oldest friends, and one of Batman’s most personal enemies. Given this latest chapter is called HUSH 2 (or H2SH), where does it fall in the timeline? Clearly, it’s not the first sequel (that was 2004’s “Hush Returns”, which in my mind is forgettable), nor is it the second, third, or fourth.

We’re in the back half of Jeph Loeb’s BATMAN: THE LAST HALLOWEEN, and this beast keeps roaring. After an interesting, albeit “OK”, issue last month (admittedly the art wasn’t my favorite), this chapter adds more depth, answers, questions, and teases. Two-Face puts a gun to the head of a Harvey Dent ally. Batman and Gordon try to solve the disappearance of Mario Falcone. The Dynamic Duo acts like a detective unit in The Batcave. And Catwoman is seeing green, while wanting to meet Mama Falcone.

After a month off, we are back in the thick of it in the latest chapter of THE LONG HALLOWEEN saga. The Joker is loaded with weapons and takes it upon himself to recommit villains to Arkham, Batman gives Robin training lessons, the Gordons have a family problem, and Two-Face reunites with someone he doesn’t recognize. Jeph Loeb has been firing on all cylinders with THE LAST HALLOWEEN and doesn’t let up here. However, perhaps the least interesting plotline in this issue is dealing with Batman.
