There several "barometers" to gauge the health of the farm economy. But I can say from experience, there are a lot of angry, grumpy, pissed off & very a$$hole-ish farmers in the countryside right now, taking their financial stresses out on folks they work with. Not a rosy picture

If crux of RR strike was centered on time off/# of working hours, & current hiring climate is "no one can find people", the only way to meet terms needed to avoid strike is cut service & yield worse RR performance. Or am I missing something? Seems hard to celebrate too much, IMO
